| but he could sure write a lyric... |
I was really excited to receive an email from Janelle at Me and Mia. Janelle has been playing along with W.o.W since its first week and she contacted me with some ideas for writing exercises. Brilliant! One month in and I feel like we are all getting to know each other and our writing better and better. Hope you all feel the same...
This week marks the start of a big life change for me and my little family (a good change, I promise!) and I find that music is playing an important role. I have a few old favorites that I like to play when I'm dealing with change - it's like talking to an old friend. This is why I chose the below exercise from Janelle's list of suggestions. A little bit of music to get the writing flowing...
The Write On Wednesdays Rules: First of all, I am not a big fan of rules. Feel free to get creative with the writing exercises. But please try to visit the other members of Write On Wednesdays to leave a comment. You can grab the button for Write On Wednesdays from my sidebar.
Write On Wednesdays Exercise 5: Write the Music - A bit of choice this week: Pick your favorite song and write down the first line of lyrics OR turn on the radio and write down the first line of lyrics you hear. Then set your timer for 5 minutes and write the first words that come into your head after your writing prompt. Stop when the buzzer rings! Do this exercise over and over if you wish.
Extra Credit: After you do the exercise, try it again but this time play the song while you write. Could be an interesting way to get the creativity going...
Things to think about:
- If you would like the other members of W.O.W to give criticism on your writing pieces feel free to mention this at the end of your post. It would help if you can specifically pinpoint the areas for feedback.
- This is a learning process for me too. I started W.O.W because I wanted to write more. I don't have all (any?!) of the answers so please contact me with your ideas and comments!
- The linky will be open until late Friday

what a wonderful challenge. I'm sorry I've missed the last two weeks, I'm reading. But I'm finding it incredibly hard to write while I wrap my head aroudn the new challenges I face with losing so much of my vision (lost it a month ago, have been declared legally blind). don't know if it is temporary or not.
Keep up the wonderful writing. I can't wait to join back in.
Thanks IPP - I enjoyed my first WOW. My song is still singing in my head too - added bonus!
Another great prompt, thank you!
I loved this prompt. What a great idea!
Love this prompt and looking forward to having a go this week. Thank you!
Hi Gill! How are you this week? I'd have to say this was my favourite so far! Can't wait to read everyone elses.

Awesome Prompt this week! I am {fashionably} late with my entry and had to do it twice after the first one got eaten! Thanks for getting me back into the writing (I missed last weeks exercise after a moment of doubt, but am fired up to get going again)
Off to check out everyone's entries!
just found this site... what a fun idea... not sure how to do an entry but just tried it anyway on my blog. http://gunnagirls.blogspot.com
Thanks Gill and Janelle. Great idea. I finally had time to do it.
Sneaking in just before the cut off. I'll try to read what everyone else has posted for this week's WoW exercise over the weekend - it's great to see so many names on the sign-up list.
Hi. I found your blog by accident and I'm glad I did. There's so much rubbish on the Internet that's it's nice to find somewhere where creativity, spelling, grammar and pride in the written word still mean something. Okay, I'll get off my soap box now. LOL I've enjoyed reading all the links, even if I haven't commented on every one of them. I'm looking forward to reading next week's WoW submissions.
So far, correct me if I'm wrong I've read about grammar and writing techniques on your blog, more than literary pieces .
A writer's main practice should consist in writing, about the what, when , where, who and how.
Or mostly what if.
I have found writing micro stories to be helpful, some of them complete on on their own , others show a possibility of developing into a larger piece.
Be welcome to my blog, you will not find any advice in there, it's all micro and short stories.
